How much does a mortgage loan officer make? Is it a good job?

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010
C asked:

I have an interview with a mortgage company tomorrow hiring a loan officer. The owner mentioned he typically hires for commission only, but has in the past and considered a small base salary plus commission to get started.

The Economy: Rates are historically low on mortgages, home prices are low, but banks are not lending.

Do you think I could make money? I have 7 years sales experience. How much do loan officers make?

Mortgage Bankers Celebrate Victory

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010
AmericanNewsProject asked:

You would think this year’s Mortgage Bankers Association annual meeting would be a rather solemn affair — given the criticism the industry has endured in recent months. But our ANP reporter attending the meeting found the bankers in a celebratory mood. The reason? A massive lobbying campaign against bankruptcy reform legislation known as “cram-down” appeared to be working.

I bought a house a couple of years ago. I don’t have much equity in it. Now my fiance and I want to buy a new home, but we won’t be able to sell my home for what is owed on the mortgage. Are there programs that let you borrow on your new mortgage to allow you to pay off previous mortgage?

Can our mortgage company require us to go with their insurance company?

Sunday, June 20th, 2010
ecemajor asked:

We are in the process of trying to refinance with a new mortgage company. We currently have homeowner’s insurance through Farm Bureau Insurance, as well as boat, automobile, and life insurance. The mortgage company we are refinancing with is saying that we must have and escrow account and pay their OWN homeowner’s insurance, instead of Farm Bureau. I don’t want to do this because we get a multi-line discount at Farm Bureau, and I like them. Can they do this?
