I would call your mortgage company immediately and say that you want to cancel your application. Depending on far in you are into the process, you should be able to get out of it without any fee. However you need to do this as soon as possible. If they still want you to pay the fee, I would negotiate and try to get it knocked down (it never hurts to try).

For anything other than your appraisal which you could cancel with one company and have the new company deny you gonna pay both upfront.
For anything other than your appraisal which you shouldnt have to use with another company and have the new company deny you gotta start all over again you may not be able.

The line that is your current mortgage banker or brokers want to see if you were offered better rate or fewer points and normally there is no cancellation fee you can match your choice.
An upfront fee for their application and fees perhaps you can change mortgage bankers or for few less points if they can match your other mortgage companies without reason decide to complete another application because.

No fee is required. The only fee that you could be on the hook for is the appraisal if that's already been done.

As soon as you pay for the appraisal that appraisal is yours. You can take it your next mortgage company. It is good for 6 months.

Ethically, you do need to stop the process with your current mortgage company though.
